Overlay Controls tab disabled in Dets, any ideas

The "Overlay Controls" tab of "Additional Properties" is grayed out and no options below it (brightness, hue, etc) can be adjusted. It's on a Gainward GF3 Ti200 in XP Pro. Tried several Dets, incuding the ones from the drivers CD, adjusted it with RivaTuner but the changes dont show up in games. Searched the forums and the web, came up with this:

"I shall mark that overlay settings tab is disabled in a number of 14.*, 21.88, 22.* versions. It may be enabled with RivaTuner utility. "

Which I did, but the changes dont take effect. So I'm about out of ideas, anyone?
 
I believe you need to play a DVD using a software player in order to be able to adjust it.
 
Hmm thats weird, or am I confusing nVidias definition of overlay with ATI? I adjusted my Radeon's overlay and it brightened OpenGL, figured it worked the same here. Anyway I'll give it a try John, thanks for the tip.

Yeah, new natural keyboard destroyed my accuracy. Quibbling about it doesnt help though, wepopfresh.
