Overheating T-bird

I got a new 1Ghz 266Mhz Tbird retail and the thing stays hot all the time with a stock AMD HSF. Idle temp is around 123F. Gets up around 135-140F (approximately 55C) degrees during heavy load. It's on an MSI 6330-lite with Promise RAID.
Why in hell is this thing running so hot? I have good thermal paste on it and it's not overclocked. The fan runs around 5000rpm steady. I have a buddy with a 900 T-bird and his usually hovers around 100F.

The case has good cooling as it used to house a PIII 733 and it rarely ever got above 115F under the heaviest loads. I am at work right now so I can't do anything, but I will probably lap the heatsink this weekend.

I know this thing shouldn't be this hot even without lapping. Any help?

Birds run hotter....It would take some seriouse cooling to keep them at the P3 heat level :) Hows your system temp compared to cpu temp? Maybe try using cpu-idle?

System temp is around 84-94 degrees Farenheit depending on time of day. Way below Bird temp. I can't figure it out. I feel like it should at least be down around 120 idle.

My 1.33 is running at the temps. My case is real low and my CPU is close to 60 celsius. I do have it overclocked to 1466 mhz but I am running a Thermaltake Volcano II. I figured that cooler would do the job but maybe not..

isn't the MSI 6300lite the MSI K7T Turbo R?

anyway that's the board that I have. I also have the same CPU so my experience may be relevant to yours.

When I first got my setup I used the Stock HSF that Mwave sent me. I got the same temps in the 158f range. This was a bit disconcerting, so i purchased the WBK38, with this hsf (a 6800 RPM Screamer) i got temps in the 131 range.

The last thing i did that really helped the most was increase air flow in my case. that lowered my temps to the 113f range.

unfortunately my hs f is really loud.

Current room temp 73f , case temp 84f, 1.33@1507 118f running on an A7V133...mobo monitor 5.
Try throwing a nice heatsink and fan on it...I'm running a hedgehog with an 80mm HO (68CFM) Delta....fairly quiet too...at least compared to the 60mm Delta HO.
Here it is!

Platinum,

The 6330 Lite is the K7T Turbo. I think the HSF is fine (maybe better after lapping), and you might be right about the circulation in the case. I have a front mounted fan blowing in, a side mounted fan blowing in across the cards and the power supply fan is drawing heat off the CPU and out the case.

See pic here. I'll add a more powerful fan to the front intake and see if that helps or maybe add a blowhole for the top. I have been itching for a little project lately anyway. Thanks...

sounds to me like you need something other than just ps pulling exhaust.

exhausting the air is just as important as pushing air into the case.

i have one fan on top of case for exhaust and one fan blowing over the cards and cpu for intake.
