overheating question

hello all,

i know that its okay to leave my computer on for days without turning it off but is this okay for my audigy breakout box (one that comes with platinum pro)? and does "leaving it on" include putting the system on standby or hibernation? thanks.

Quick answer is that yes its ok to leave everything on all the time, however I tend to suggest putting some power save on the monitor to save the life.

People argue that leaving your machine on protects it from the radical temperature change from it being off and cool to being on and hot very quickly, but then again leaving it on all the time puts its wear on as well. I leave mine off (except my FTP server) all the time

I always heard the initial power surge when turning the computer on was the worst thing for it. This is the same for anything electronic. This is also why light bulbs tend to blow out when you first turn them on.

I pretty much leave mine on 24/7. My last computer lasted me from Dec/99 until about 2 months ago and I only upgraded because it was getting a little out of date, not because it was dying on me. I ran that thing pretty much from day one 24/7 and the only major upgrade I did to it was with the harddrives. I do turn the monitor off when Im not around though but thats more to save power than anything else.
