Cooler Master Hyper 212+ cpu cooler

Hi all,

I am having some cooling problems with my new rig and need a hand diagnosing the problem. After the Hyper 212+ HSF was installed on the cpu it puts temperatures into the 90s (C) while running prime95 at stock speeds. It easily hits its T.J. Max of 100C with any overclock at all. I have reseated the hsf several times, and tested the stock cooler. While using the stock cooler at stock speeds the idle temp is about 45C and almost 85C load (prime95). Originally I had thought the HSF was defective but I got a friends computer to test it on, and it give great temperatures even when overclocked. However, this was on an AMD Phenom II 965 @ 3.7Ghz. It gave idle of 38C and load of 55C.

Has anyone heard about problems with some i7s overheating or could that hsf not be working with my setup? Any other suggestions?

Yes the 9xx series does run hot, but not necessarily that hot... Sounds like you got a chip that is running the line on the spec... Not all chips are created equal, some will get 4Ghz OC, nice and cool, others are like yours.

That being said, what is your Voltage at? I have been able to undervolt many chips to bring down the temps a bit, so you may try that.
