Hey guys. I recently installed a new mobo and CPU. I purchased an AMD Athlon XP 2600 processor. Unfortunetly, I am only able to run the cpu at 1250 because of over heating problems. Even at half speed, the cpu runs just over 60 degrees C. I would like to see that temperature drop to somewhere in between 40-50 while running at it's top speed without overclocking. I purchased a copper based XP Cooler MicroFin fan that is AMD recommended and is supposed to be able to cool an Athlon XP 3000+ processor. The fan is also supposed to run at 5300 RPM but typically runs at a constant 5000 RPM. When at full speed, the processor heats up to 80 degrees C and won't even let me install an operating system or boot my machine after an operating system is installed. I put thermal paste on the processor as well to try and help the problem. The last detail I feel I should mention is that the Bios for my board will not let me raise the fail/safe temperature for my processor. I don't think I would want to raise it anyways.
I have been trying to search for a solution. Possibly a much better fan at 10000 rpm if it exists. I havn't been able to find one yet. I am even considering water cooling if I can find an affordable price. I am continuing to look for a solution, but I am running out of ideas.
What I am asking everyone here is if anyone has a fan with considerably high rpm that is compatable with my processor that they would like to recommend to me. If you do not have that kind of fan, but are confident with a recommendation of another fan or another solution entirely then please let me know. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys
