Overheating Problem?

Hi,

Let me just explain my problem and hopefully someone will be able to help me:

Whenever I try to run unreal tournament or play a movie file, my monitor goes black. It's still on and the power lights blink but the monitor goes black. The computer is still on and I hear the fans going. The only way to get out of it is to manually reset the computer.

Another problem is that about 1 out of 3 times when I boot the computer up, it takes forever to load up and hangs for a long while at the last line of the config.sys, right before the windoes GUI loads (the config.sys is not the problem it's just installing a ram drive only one line). After windoes eventually loads it takes forever to do anything, even trying to display the contents of my raid drive takes about 30 seconds. Loading a program is almost impossible.

Here are my hardware specs:
AMD Duron 800mhz (Thermaltake Volcano II HS using Artic Silver 2)
IWILL KK266-r
ATI Radeon 32 MB
2x 30gig maxtors (raid)
1x 40 gig maxtor
768 megs ram (300 in ram drive)
WIN 98
Antec sx630 case
Idle processor temperatures are usually about 30-35c
System temp around 25-28c
1 rear case fan

If anyone here can help me I would be eternally grateful, and if you need any more information just ask and I will add it. Hopefully someone out there will know a solution.

I am going to add a front case fan to see if that might solve the problem and I will post if it helps

-sounds- like 2 seperate problems to me. A monitor out of rage thing, and something else 😉

Yeah, it sounds like your monitor is trying to switch video modes and not quite making it. Check the specs.

Also, the ramdrive might be your problem. Those things arn't realy made for normal use, mainly for emrgency things. I have never heard of someone having a problem with one, but I don't know anyone whom runs one continusaly.

It's not a problem with my monitor, because I have tried another monitor, and it gives me the same problem. Also if I dont install the ramdrive, i still get the same problems so i know that those to arn't the source of the problem.
When I open a video file, the computer freezes and a black bar appears at the top of the monitor with lines coming out of it like this.
