Overheating Issues, CPU Fan Issues

Hi,
I am running an AMD 64 3200+ with a Abit KV8Pro Motherboard, 1GB of RAM, and an ATI x800 video card. Ever since I bought my computer I have had issues with overheating but I am not familiar with fans for the CPU and cooling options.

My CPU temperature is ALWAYS high usually above 75 Degrees Celsius and 167 Degrees Farenheit. My SYS temperature is 30 Celcius and 86 Farenheit. How can I stop my CPU from overheating, because since I don't want it to burn out I have it set so that it shuts off automatically at 85 Degrees Celcius which happens often.

If some one could link me to a fairly inexpensive and easy to install way to lower my CPU 's temperature I would greatly appreciate it. Exact model numbers would be excellent.

Is your stock cooling running properly??

Are the fins on your stock cooling clogged with lint and dirt?

I would check those 2 things first....

could just be time for a house cleaning...with some canned air....etcc

Can you post some detailed spec's? New pc? How long has this issue been going on? Sounds like a HSF issue (maybe bad contact) to me with your system temps being good.
**EDIT..I forgot...Welcome to the forums mate!! 🙂

The PC is about 1 year and 2 months old. This issue has been going on for about 3 weeks now. Can you please elaborate on what an HSF issue is?

Assuming you've cleaned it...

Suggestions:

1) Have you tried reseating the heatsink? Make sure you have good contact before you go nuts on a new cooler.
2) Are you running the current bios? Your system may not be reading the temps accurately. If the bios is current (and correct), the air around your heatsink should feel like the air near a stove element (DON'T TOUCH IT!! If the temps are right, that is hot enough to burn)
3) Is the fan on the heatsink working? What is the reported RPM? If the fan isn't working correctly, it will not cool the heatsink.

Verify these points, and report back. Also, are you using the stock cooler (will have AMD hologram logo or AVC label on the fan)

Ok,
Fan has been cleaned, still same temperature. My CPU fan is 2820 RPM. I haven't updated my BIOS since I recieved my computer but I believe the temperature is accurate. Is my CPU speed normal?

HSF=heat'sink'fan....I would reseat your heatsink...clean cpu and base of heatsink w/ isopropyl alchohol...apply AS5 or any thermal grease....re-install and see what you get. If you have any Q's about this procedure just PM (private message) me and I will help you any way I can.

Thats the first thing I would do.

I seiously doubt thats it has anything to do with your bios.
