The subject says it all. I have PC that I use as a game server. Here are it's specs:
ABIT KT7A Ver. 1.3
XP2100
512MB Crucial PC 133 CAS2 Ram
Hitachi 120GB HDD
I access the internet through my Time Warner High Speed Cable Modem that connects to my Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Broadband Router. I have 2 PC's that connect to my network wirelessly and 2 others that are hardwired to the router. All of the PC's have static IPs.The entire network works flawlessly all of the time and has for years.
The computer I mentioned above which is connected by way of a network cable to the router overheats sometimes and locks up. When it locks up, the rest of the network locks up too. When this happens the other computers on the network can't get a IP when they try to connect and the ones that are already on lose their internet connection entirely and can't browse the lan either.
All I have to do to restore connectivity to all of the PCs on the network is reboot this computer that locked up from overheating. I will be getting a better cooling solution but I just want to try to understand how a single overheated and locked up PC can lock up the entire network. I'm listening. Teach me please. Thank you.
