My friends computer just overheated. He said that he has some software to control all of his fans; evidently the software screwed up and stopped all of his fans. I'm helping him replace his comp and wanted to get these parts checked out. Let me know if you see something bad.

He has his AGP Sapphire x800xt still, the fan didn't stop on that. He also has 1.25GB of pc3200.

Mainboard: ASUS A8V DELUXE

Hard drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 ST3250823AS 250GB

Power Supply: Fortron Source AX500-A ATX12V 500W

Case: Thermaltake XaserV WinGo V7000D

DVD Burner: NEC ND-3540A Black

Any problems?

Why not just replace the chip?

That's about the only thing that would die from the fans stopping... the Motherboard is *probably* okay... hard drive, power supply, DVD-Burner, Video card, etc. will all still be just fine...

what happens when you try to power the PC on after the overheat?

if absolutely nothing happens, then the mobo may have died.... but if it powers up and beeps, might just be a CPU as stated above.

I cant see why more than 1 of those parts would have gone bad.

I'm just going by what he said. I think he was about to upgrade anyway, so this is a good excuse.

Yup. I'll add, it's not a great idea to buy an AGP mobo nowadays.

well you can get an Asrock 939 pin motherboard that supports both agp and pci-e so you'll be future proof. everything else looks fine

if he wants to upgrade, then thats one thing, but make sure all the components are really fried.
