Overfilled oil

So I did my first oil change in between the BMW OCI (12k miles... no thanks) and 8 quarts came out and it should only hold 6.5-6.9 quarts. (Activehybrid5)

I've been driving for the past 2,000 miles with the 8 quarts. Car never showed any warnings and the iDrive oil level check always showed full.

I've already left messages at the dealer I purchased the car from. How much damage could this do to my car?

Too much oil can be dangerous because if the crank hits the oil, it can basically whip it into a frothy mess. If you haven't lost oil pressure you're probably fine.

Yeah it can be really bad, but i dont think a 15% overfill would be enough to push it into really bad territory.

What did the oil look like? If it was aerated and caused excessive wear then it should look like a dark black mess. If it looked good I wouldn't worry about it. One thing I wonder is why would you have not checked the oil and noticed the overfill sooner? Is this another case where their wisdom made them decide to omit an oil dip stick from the design?

An extra quart of oil, depending on the oil pan design, probably won't hurt anything. I know some people who track their car deliberately add half-to a full quart of extra oil to reduce the possibility of oil starvation in the corners.

Yeah, this car does not have a dipstick. It has an oil level checker through the iDrive system that always showed full oil. I think I'm good, the oil looked a dark brown and not frothy when it drained out.
