Car is a 2000 Toyota Avalon. No problems with the cooling system to date. Is this going to be a problem? It's a really slight overfill so I doubt it'll do much, but I'm a noob so just covering my ass here. The overfill was with distilled water, if that matters.

Nope. If there's too much, it'll likely just spit out the overflow.

If there isn't room to expand, it will just vent out the cap and you might notice a leak and coolant smell for a day or two. No big deal.

Where are you located and how much water did you put in? The reservoir in a Camry from about that time takes about .75L from empty to full. I think the cooling system capacity was about 7L but I'm not sure if that includes the overflow tank.

If lower the concentration of the mixture you may have some problems with the water freezing in the winter.

You overfilled it by a 1/2"? That won't change anything....and won't change your antifreeze concentration one bit, despite the warning above. That's what at most......a 1/2 pint of fluid...a whole pint?

Drive on and forget it.

1 centimeter? This is a joke, right?

That doesn't even come close to qualifying as an "overfill"...

Dude, overfill is like when it spills out the cap hahah! 1CM? You filled it up perfectly IMO!

Good to hear. Figured it was nothing, but like I said I'm a noob. Need the car for a long haul tomorrow so just wanted to make sure a coolant hose wasn't going to explode or some crazy shit. *shrug* :)

1L is about a quart or 2 pints. 1/2 pt is 230-240mL -- about 1/3 of of a can of soda. .75L is a bit more than two cans of soda.

The cooling system capacity is about 7L.

If it was a 50/50 mix of coolant and water, the concentration will be 60% water afterwards. This does not affect the boiling point much, but the freezing temperature is increased by about 20-30 deg F.

Not a chance imo, with only a 1cm "overfill" in the overflow reservoir. No difference whatsoever, imo.

Ok...I was thinking his overflow tank was empty and he filled the entire thing with distilled water. In that situation, it would be necessary to add more coolant.
