Overdriving a Samsung Syncmaster 955df

I would really like to know if it is possible to drive my 955df monitor at 1600x1200 @75 hz. It is rated for 68 Hz at this resolution.

Does anybody know how to force the graphics card to just run at a higher rate?

Also, does anyone know what the permanent physical effects would be on the monitor? (i.e. is the worst that can happen is that the display won't work and then you just put the refresh rate back down or can it actually cause a physical failure?)

Thanks

To force your monitor to run this, you can just use windows video settings. Go to display properties > settings > advanced > monitor > uncheck box that says "hide modes that this monitor cannot display > select 75 hz. I would not reccomend doing so; the monitor might not display it, and windows will have to revert after 15 seconds. If it does work, the image might not be stable, and I think it can hurt the monitor.

Don't know how I missed the check box for that. Anyway, that does allow you to try. Unfortunately the monitor goes blank and displays a error saying that the Vertical sync rate is out of range. Bad luck.

PowerStrip will let you do it Hz by Hz.

not just that, it lets you do it fraction of a Hz by fracion of a Hz.

it's certainly possible but it isn't wise. i have the same monitor . . . mine's 'sweet spot' is 11x8 @ 85 hz - works perfectly. . . 12x9 @80 hz and it is very slightly less perfect . . . 16x12 @ 70hz is a shaky mess. 😉

by running it out of range you risk premature failure . . .

16x12 @ 85 right now...

if its that important to you you can switch monitors...otherwise its not a good idea
