Overdrive on LCD's any side-effects?

I have an NEC LCD2490WUXI, I just enabled overdrive. I don't really notice too much of a difference (Left4Dead at 1900x1200 with a 4890).

Does this cause problems? What are the pros and cons?

If this is an option on your monitor it's probably designed to enhance pixel response rate to eliminate ghosting. I think overdrive works by temporarily applying extra voltage in order to get pixels to change colors faster. The benefit is faster response time, but it can cause distortions in the image/colors and an effect called inverse ghosting. If you don't notice anything either way it probably doesn't matter to you and you'll be happier not looking for problems. I'd disable it if you don't notice any effect.
