lol... im running at 1.8 right now and my board overvolts so its at 1.84. So im very cautious. I try it below that but then it fails prime 95. Might i dunno why i cant attain 3000+ below those speeds but hey... its stable right now.

To check your Vcore simply look in the bios hardware monitor... more preferrably if you have a voltage meter use that... Im not too sure where it goes tho... so someone else will have to help ya there.

I think bartons can handle quite a bit of voltage. I've never heard of anyone frying one from too much voltage, except for Soulkeeper. Bad luck I guess.
I've run a 2100+ tbred for a year at 1.9V and a barton for six months at 1.95V.

Dont worry until after above the 1.8xx range. Ive seen some go as high as 2.1V. I certainly wouldn't go that high im happily running at 1.8V right now. I was hesitant my first time but its not a big deal. Make sure you have adequate cooling tho.

The source of that quote is unknown because nobody will fess up and claim they said it since it's untrue.

hahaha you guys are livin' on the edge

i wanna see 3ghz+ barton overclocks if yur wasting that much voltage tho :)

I guess that's why he's called "soulkeeper"...all those dead CPU's. It reminds me of a Jewel song actually...

Anyhow, I always invest in a good PSU. I guess I'm paranoid. I just want something of high quality feeding just the right amount of power to my expensive components. I've had a couple of cheap PSU's go up in smoke on me and it scared me into only buying Enermax. Yep, I'm an Enermax fanboy. That's probably a first. :)

well i got the new power supply, an antec smartPower 350W, and I've pushed it up to 1.725 and it still won't be stable at 2.3 ghz (200*11.5). Any idea why? It should easily be stable at that speed. I am stable at 2.2 with 1.625V, I shouldn't have to go up more than 0.1V just to get a 100mhz increase.

When you near the cpu's overclock limit the voltage increase necessary to keep it stable is not linear.

that makes sense, but I would think I would still have a couple more hundred mhz to go up before I reached the limit of this chip.

Guys, we are talking about <$99 chips here. If they fail in a year or two due to voltage, buy another THEN for <$50. That being said, I have my XP 2600+ running at 2.2GHz (15x147MHz FSB) at 1.6v. And the only reason I'm running 1.6v is because my board won't go any lower for this board. I'm sure I could do 2.4-2.5GHz with this chip, but my stupid board won't let me choose a multiplier higher than 15 and it doesn't like a FSB higher than 147MHz (I could push it to 150MHz but I like to keep my data safe at 147MHz. ;)).
