Overcloking a P4 3GHz

I haven't been doing any overclocking for a long time now (the last thing i o/c'ed was a P2 450Hz 🙂). So I was wondering if you had any good resources about o/cing a P4. I know that the multiplier is locked so that changing the FSB is the way to go. But thats it, I don't really know what other settings to fiddle around with, like voltage and such, or how high I would dare to set it. Any guides or tips would be greatly appreciated 🙂

welcome to the fourms. here is how i OC (with intel): i raise the FSB as much as i can, if i cant get into windows, i go back and give it a voltage bump until the CPU reaches its max OC (i dont bump the voltage to much with intel though). with each voltage bump, i moniter the temps when its under a load (use Prime95). if the temps look good under load, then i continue to run prime for 24 hours. if prime has no errors after 24 hours, then i keep the OC as i consider it to be stable

Generally speaking, voltages should be left alone now that mVID chips are out.
But to OC that 3GHz CPU, you must find some high quality, high speed memory.

and that is getting harder and harder to find ( maybe its always been this way? )... check out some threads here and over at abxzone.com ( asusboards.com ) about memory and OCing... its a little bleak

another crapshoot
