I am going to overclock my CPU which is a AthlonXP 2500. My motherboard is the Asus A7N8X-X with the 1009 BIOS. I know my CPU is locked as I tried lowering the multiplier in the BIOS and my system would not boot.
So, a friend told me to overclock my FSB by just going into the BIOS and setting it at 400mhz. Is this correct?
I have been reading that I need to first lock my AGP and PCI FSB?

CPU Heatsink is a Thermalright SLK-800 with a 40CFM fan on top. At the moment its running at 33c idle and it can go up to 60c under full load. So, I am going to reapply some thermal goo and buy a Delter 'Screamer' later today.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

put on some artic silver 5 thermal paste (its the best) never just go straight to 400 FSb (its actually 200 in the bios giving 400 effective) raise the fsb in 5-10mhz increments. use prime 95 to make sure your overclock is stable (google search prime95) and you should be set. if theres no option in the bios for your agp/pci lock then it should be auto locked with NF2 400's

I re-seated my heatsink and brought a Delta 'Screamer'. My temps are now 28c idle and 35 full load.

P.S. I have just had a look in my BIOS and there is an option saying something like AGP Frequency which is set to 'Auto' at the moment. Should I leave it at this or change it to 66mhz so it sticks at that setting?

change it to 66 mhz, overclocking ur AGP bus does little to nothing. Btw, ive taken my 133 athlon 1600+ strait to the 166 fsb on a Via Kt333 and it worked fine. i couldnt up it 1-2 mhz at a time cuz my system couldnt lock the agp/pci. but it had a 1/3 divider so it worked out fine. i took a 1.4 ghz to 1.74 ez.
