ASUS K7M Rev. 1.04 motherboard.
Athlon (classic, slot A) 500
CoolerMaster Athlon Slot A Fan

I have overclocked successfully 50 Mhz (just by setting the FSB to 105 rather than 100) without the need for extra cooling or upping the voltage.

I was wondering if overclocking in this manner can have any kind of effect on my motherboard. I know that the chip's life is reduced when overclocking, it can die of heat - basically stuff can happen to the chip.

Is the motherboard effected in any way from overclocking, aside from added heat?

If anyone has ever overclocked thier system and had unexplainable, negative effects, please throw them out + any ideas you might have had of their origin.

Hurt the MB? Not likely. True, life will be shortened at higher clock speeds, but not signifigant to what the componets have to indure.

Since the settings are set within the MB Bios screen, you're adjusting values that the MB was designed for. Now, the compoents like Memory, Hard Drive, CPU, Video Card can easily be fried if you're not careful.

My $.02

The harddrive can be damaged from overclocking? Really?

Can you go a little bit more into this?

I definetley know that RAM can be damaged as well as video, because with the increase in FSB you also increace the RAM bus Mhz and the PCI bus Mhz, but how can a harddrive be affected?
