Overclocking XP2100+ and A7N8X dx won't post at 166fsb

i've been reading here for awhile and decided to try overclocking.
my spec
xp2100+ "B" (DUT3C) AIUHB0305MPMW
Asus A7N8X dx ver. 2
256 HyperX 3000 --- 370MHz settings: 2-2-2-6-1 (CAS Latency 2)
cooling SK-7 with Enermax fan.

1. when i bumped up FSB to 166, mutilplier 13 -- window XP craps out after i start browsing internet 🙁
you guys think cpu needs to be unlocked with wire trick?

2. how could i set my memory timing for its full potential?

temp right now at 133FSB
cpu 39 C
mobo 25 C

help me unleash this little monster

sync the memory, and see if it helps. I don't see any reason you shouldn't hit 190+ with those parts. I use the same memory and its at 192
6-2-2-2 settings.

as you guy told me sync my memory and
set my multi to 12
fst 166
v core at 1.65

and posted as xp2400+
ran 3dmark and got 1000 more scores

seems stable , cpu temp at 38 C.
should i set it as AGGRESSIVE except memory?
i want to get it atleast xp2700+
what now to push more out of my cpu
bare with me i'm not experience in o'c....

one more thing , i'm using this FAN over the heatsink.
do i need to set Q-fan enabled?

I just got an A78X deluxe rev 1.6 (1003 bios), XP2100+ box w/fan, 9700 Pro (3.2 cats), 2 512mb sticks of Corsair PC3500C2 (slots 1 and 3), a 80gb WD 8mbSE hd and an Antec 550 watt TruPower p/s. I put it all together and here are the Advanced Chipset Features settings as you read from top to bottom: 166, 13.5x, user defined, aggressive, auto, user defined, 3, 3, 3, 2T, 0.50%, menu, 1.625v, 128mb, auto, disabled, disabled, 2.7v, 1.5v, enabled. It shows up as a 2800+.
Using Windows 2000 Pro w/SP4 (got the link at Warp2Search) it runs at 27 degrees C/80 degrees F in a 68 degree F room with the stock AMD fan and a 4" high-speed 120 volt auxillary fan focused into the AMD fan. It runs rock-solid so far with the above settings. I spent three days experimenting with varied configurations (LOTS of clearing the CMOS) and this was the most stable. It will not boot with a 14x setting no matter what. It is a lot more stable with the fsb set at 166-170 than at 200-205 and the memory sync changed.
A 2.25ghz processor for $83.00 delivered to my door and a 3-year warranty (I don't know anything about how it died-it just quit working all of a sudden, what's "overclocking" and where is the "any" key on my keyboard?) seemed like a hallucination a year ago. Whooopie!!!

that's nice cooling

as you stated i've tried your setting and was able to post xp2800 but windows craps up...

for me i don't think i could go no more that 13x multi.

i think i could reach 2.3ghz mark
temp right now is 35 C idle 40 C full load....
what's your toughts?

using 13x will still give you 2.16ghz with a few notches to play with on the fsb. You're not going to really notice any difference in performance other than in benchmarking. If you can afford it get the Corsair memory. I just looked on Pricewatch.com and saw if for $135.00 per 512mb with free shipping in the U.S.. I'm going to add another stick soon.
I got the fan for $35.00 at a Professional Audio repair facility. They are used in power amplifiers for active cooling, are shielded, push incredible amounts of air and draw no power from the system. CompUSA has some very nice 120mm grilles and filters for less than $2.50 that fit them. Remember to vent the case well because all of that air has to go somewhere. They can make 12v 80mm fans spin backward while still under power. I have done much experimenting with air-cooling. I used to repair power amplifiers and transferred what I learned from them to computer cooling.
What are you using for a p/s and how many things are running off it? Use the biggest one you can afford and put the least draw on it possible. Lights and other crap look pretty but don't make anything run faster.
I don't know what all you have running in the background but here is my XP Pro msconfig setup: Services, Win. Audio, Index Serv., Crypto, DHCP, Log. Dsk Mgr, DNS, Event Log, Help&Supp., TCP/IP, Win. Inst., Net Conn., P&P, RPC, Sys Rest., Themes, Trend (PC-cillin), TrueVector (ZoneAlarm), Win. Mgmt.. Everything except mouse, keyboard, firewall and anti-virus are disabled in Start-up. On my Gigabyte GA7VRXP box with another XP2100+ @150fsb=1.95ghz, 2x512mb Corsair PC3000C2, a 120JB WD hd it boots in 27 seconds from power-on to desktop. With the air holes drilled to 7/32nds (0.20) in the front of the Sky Hawk aluminum mini-server case, all metal in the the fan openings in the back completely cut out and grill-guards installed with a Thermaltake Volcano 7 CPU fan it runs at 36 C/96 F with no addittional case cooling.
Remember to cut away ANY metal in the path of airflow from the fan mounting area for maximun efficiency. Also remember that not all processors overclock the same, one of my 2100's will hit 2.3ghz at 1.65v while the other hit 2.16 no matter how far I increase the voltages to the proc and memory...
