overclocking xp1600+ on kt333 dragon lite (i have no idea what i'm doing)

yes, another n00b oc'ing thread, but i'm so jealous, lol. so ya, i have an xp1600+ palamino and a soyo kt333 dragon lite, and the mobo comes with a menu in the BIOS specifically for overclocking. not knowing what i'm doing, i upped the FSB from 133 to 140 so it runs at xp1700+ speeds (whooptie freakin doo). knowing absolutely nothing about what i'm doing, i'm wondering what the best combo of settings to change would be to get this thing going faster. my hardware monitor (that came w/ the mobo) says i'm running
cpu - 46C
cha(what is that???) - 34C
vcore - 1.74
+5v - 4.89
+12v - 12.28
ddr - 2.47
agp - 1.56
+3.3v - 3.29

i've been running prime for a few hours (just to be safe) and everything has gone fine. just wanting you all's opinions on the different fsb/multiplier combos i should go with.

other stuff to know:

-running air cooling
-512 ddr ram pc2100
-xp home

Do you know what stepping your CPU is? This is important. For example, my XP1600 is an AGOIA-step. The stepping is printed on the CPU core. How long ago did you buy the CPU? Was it OEM or Retail?

The stepping I have was well-known to be able to do a 166 FSB w/o sweating. That equates to an XP2100, or 1740 or so megahertz. (1740MHz).

Your KT333 board should have a 1/5 PCI/AGP divisor. Meaning that at 166 FSB, you're PCI and AGP busses are back in spec. At anwhere from 134 to 165MHz, they are OUT of spec. 166 is the magic number.

If you're unsure about what stepping you have, do this. (this is assuming you have PC2700 memory! If not, don't bother, ok?)

1. Set your FSB to 166MHz.
2. Up the CPU voltage to 1.8V, just in case
3. Reboot
4. If it boots at 1740MHz and windoze runs fine, you have an "overclocking XP1600" Enjoy!
5. If the fans spin and you get no mobo beep an nothing on the screen, you have a regular XP1600 sorry.
6. If #5, clear the CMOS using the jumper, go in and reset all the settings and run your PC like you were before you did #1

Good luck!

i have pc2100 ram. dont know the stepping on my proc, i bought it bundled and haven't looked. bought it back in july. i have it running now at 1629 MHz (xp 2000+ speeds according to my boot screen)just by upping the FSB. doing a torture test in prime and my temps are still down. i'll try that out in a minute, and report back.

*edit* changed the fsb and voltage. logged into windows fine. one problem. prime95 gives me:

FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4
Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file.

looked at it. said

If you are overclocking then try increasing the core voltage, reduce the
CPU speed, reduce the front side bus speed, or change the memory timings
(CAS latency). Also try asking for help in one of the forums above - they
may have other ideas to try.

i am going to bump it back down for now, until someone can maybe help me.

Your memory might be a limitting factor also. I do not know what kind of memory it is, but most PC2100 that come bundled with systems is bottom of the line rotten cottage cheese.
Then again you may be a lucky person and got a good stick.

If you feel confident in your abilities, unlock your cpu and drop the multiplier as low as it will go. Then bring your FSB upto 166MHz and see if you still have problems. That without knowing what type of memory you have that would be the easyist to tell of thats the problem.

i have 1 stick of micron (came with the system) and 1 stick of kingston. i tried upping the voltage more, but my computer froze while running prime. i really don't want to risk messing up my processor by trying to unlock it, so i guess i'll just enjoy what i was able to get out of it (1680 mhz).
