Overclocking XP 2400+

Hey there!
Right now im running my xp 2400 @ 12,5 x 166mhz
I have Kingston memories pc2700 (166 mhz x 2)

What i want to know is, will i have any gain if i run fsb @ 200mhz since the memories run @ 166 mhz
Someone told me that Kingston memories suck in o/c, is it possible to put them running at 200 mhz?

Tkx

you can try
you might have to up the vdimm and maybe lower the timings slightly but the increase from 166 to 200 should show a small boost in benchmarks and games assuming you didn't have to lower the timings too far to get there

I didnt mess with the memories yet.
First ill try to put fsb @ 200 mhz, then ill see what i can do with the memories

I tried to lower the multtiplier to 10x and put the fsb @ 200 mhz.
I got small decrease 3d Mark 2001 benchmark, probabily because fsb was at 200 mhz and memories at 166 mhz.
I have no ideia how to overclock the memories so in bios (Asus A7N8X, last bios version) i set the memories to "Agressive". The resulting frequency was 200 mhz but the computer didnt post.
What do i have to do to overclock the memories?

[Dumb Question]

I have no VDIMM value in the BIOS
All i have is DDR Reference Voltage. Is this vdimm?

[/Dumb Question]

🙂

I still dont get one thing.
Will i have a performance gain using FSB 200Mhz if i dont overclock the memories (leave them @ 166 Mhz) ?
Its easier to get higher CPU speed with higher fsb, right?

Sory for being a dumb a55

yes, what asus calls ddr reference voltage is vdimm
you should see a performance gain by using 200/166 over 166/166 but the difference won't be as close as running yur mem and fsb in sync
because you have the nf2 chipset just upping yur fsb is a viable choice since yur memory can run in dual channel mode (assuming you have two sticks in yur motherboard) this means that yur mem only has to operate at half the fsb speed to equal the bandwidth offerred by the fsb

but i do think you could get 200mhz with yur memory if you set the memory timings to user defined and make them 2-3-3-7 or something around there and upping the vdimm .1

Tkx a lot for answering.
Right now im running 166 13.5 (2.25 Ghz) and its stable.
Tomorrow ill try to set the memories with the values u just gave me and raise the fsb

Since you can freely adjust the multiplier, no, don't run the bus any faster if the RAM won't. If you couldn't adjust the multiplier, I'd advise you to run the FSB higher, say 200, and run the RAM at 83%, which would keep it at 166 Mhz.
