Kinda new to the ATI side of things, was Nvidia for years but my recent new build an I7 920, MSI X58m, 3X2gig Corsair XMS3, Samsung 1TB spinpoint and of course the HD 5770 (Juniper XT 875/1300)

Anyhow ATI`s overdrive will only let me got to 960mhz on the core and 1445mhz on the memory and so far its stable but I would like to go more on the core and have tried MSI Afterburner but it too will only allow me to 960/1445mhz...? The shader is grey`d out so to speak...? What gives...? Would like to try higher clocks as this card seems to be a good one with the core going to the full 960mhz at stock voltage and will run anything... Can some one help an ATI newbie... :$ (thanks)

I would leave it @ 960, ,1400, anything more then that is not worth it.
You will have to edit the Msi config file and screw up your power play features.
