Overclocking X800XL

I have a SAPPHIRE X800XL 256MB graphics card and I would like to know how much can I overclock my card without need to change heatsink. What about the supply of power? Did will change a lot with overclocking?

What kind of PS do you have and what is its wattage? To overclock your great card increase the memory core by 10Mhz increments until you start seeing artifacting and then lower by 5MHz until the artifacting stops. After you have found your maximum memory overclock increase the core clock the same way until you get a hard freeze and then back off by 5Mhz increments until the game plays smoothly.

Use 3DMark2001 SE's 'Nature' benchmark to do this as it's very good to test out your overclock.

X800XL's arent renound for OC'ing from what ive heard.......for best results you want one with the extra power connector. even then ive never seen a review site get much beyond 440mhz

i purchased that exact card for its overclock, but i have only managed to make 440/520x2 with the card. and i did replace the crappy hsf with a zalman vf700-alcu and am most satisfied with temps as they never have gone over 70 yet.

I don't know much about overclocking, but just make sure you know this could ruin your computer. I tried it on my 9000IGP (in my laptop) with ati tool, and I thought wow cool I can make my computer as fast as I want it! I moved the sliders up to about 1000 core 4000 memory, and the screen went all goofy. I just about had a heart attack, because I had just got this laptop. Just a reminder.

FWIW, my x800xl is a pretty pool OC'er. I can get to 417/540 from the stock 400/490. Nothing too special, and I think I'm just going to leave the stock cooler on and leave it at stock speeds just so I don't have any warranty issues down the line.

wow.. im passing 450mhz core speed as im typing.. no artifacts! awesome... but it's w/ vf700-cu...

damn.. i crashed at 453mhz... ouch.. but still pretty darn good..

mine tops out at 435/540, and that is with Zalman VF700-Cu. and the temps are low: Even under the heaviest stress the temperatures won't go over 50c. 32-33 while idling.

But I've noticed that the X800XLs aren't good overclockers. They tend to reach the limit quite fast.
