overclocking x2 3800+

Hello.

I have overclocked my system to 2.6 Ghz. It is rock stable and prime95 on both cores for 8 hours. max temp 46. (1.55 volt)! I want more power

I tried to set the fsb to 280 1.7 volt. Running prime on bothe cores failed after 16 min. Temp was 54. I thinking about raising the volt to 1.75 or even 1.8. Will this damage the CPU? I have set the system to shutdown at 60 in bios. Will I be ok, if I watch my temps?

Best regards.

Temp isnt the only thing that kills CPU's if the Current running into a CPU is set too high you can also kill it.

It's about 50% Voltage and 50% heat that kills CPU's

Running at 1.7v may shorten your CPU's life from 10+ years to 2-3 and any higher then that may kill your cpu even sooner then that.

If your PC is mostly used for downloading overnight then you may not need to have the thing overclocked 24/7 just do it when you want the speed.

For Dual cores do not go over 1.65v its a big no no!

For single core's your about at your max.. anymore and your going into the red.

I run my X2 3800+ at default ... i dont get any slowdown in anything .. when i start to slow down i will then overclock it ... ^_^ ... maybe you should do the same!

If it's any consolation, my Opteron 165 (Dual core, 1.8GHz default) hit a wall at around 2600 as well. I managed to get there with only 1.4V though. 1.55 seems a bit high.

I hit a practical wall at 2640 with my X2 4400+ at 1.475volts. I could get 2750 at 1.55volts but that seems ridiculous for such a little gain (and temps go up, up, up, and away)

at 1.8v you'll start measuring your CPU life time in hours instead of years. so best not go any higher then 1.55, 1.6 with watercooling.

see if you can go any lower volts @ 2.6. 2.6 is a very nice overclock for a X2 3800+ mind you.

Yeah, a 3800 X2 at 2.6 is pretty much as fast as a stock FX-60. Nice overclock. I have seen some post here that they hit 2.7 stable though. Just the luck of the draw I guess.
