Overclocking X1800XL

I'm using CCC to overclock, which I've never done before ever. I tried turning everything up all the way (dumb I know) and it crashed. I then did it slower and it seems like the core does not want to go higher than 554 even if I set it to 560 or higher. The same thing with the memory, it won't go higher than 514. I have a VF700 on full blast on it. Why is this happening?

Dont overclock with CCC. Use ATiTool. I got my BBA X1800XL stable at 620/700. Scored well over 15k in 03 and 8K in 05.

What did you set the voltage at?

The reason I tried overclocking it is because in Half LIfe 2 (1680x1050, 4xAA, 4xAF, Bloom HDR) It runs okay but stutters once in a while when something appears suddenly on screen or when I press quick save. I really think that my Pentium D 820 is holding the X1800XL back. If I bought a better (overclockable) motherboard, and overclocked it to say 3.4Ghz, do you think that would solve this problem?

I am just wondering. If you think that CPU holds you back why you didn't go with AMD at the first place?
If you are thinking about buying a new mobo then sell 820 as well and switch to AMD for the gaming purpose.

Selling it is probably not a good idea. I would then have to buy a new motherboard, cpu, and RAM because I have DDR2.

I only got it because of the Intel Retail Edge thing. It was ~$240 for the 820, a motherboard, XP Pro, and Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements.

i THink you are supposed to use overclock.exe for changing clock speeds and ati tool for canging voltages. I actualy use overclocker to change voltages to, it just reads tem at .025 higher than they actually are.

I don't understand. The memory on this thing won't overclock at all.. Using ATI Tool, If I click on find max memory the screen immediately goes blank. It works for the core though. People have gotten the memory up past 700 with the stock cooler.. Could it have anything to do with the fact that its an All-In-Wonder card?

Can anyone help me with the memory problem? Please?

I don't know if anyone can help me with this, but when I change the resolution in a game when playing for the first time to 1680x1050, it closes the game and I get an error that says something like "Exception, error..blah blah.. memory could not be "read." It has said that for HL2, DoD Source, CSS, and Far Cry but the Far Cry error box looks a little different.

just lower the resolution and stop trying to fry your card, use progrmams like clockgen to OC the pentium D, i wouldn't go above 3.2GHz
