Hey

I'm just looking to put together a new system and I've decided on getting an ABIT kt7 motherboard. I really wanted to do some overclocking (apparently going from a 600mhz Duron to >850mhz is popular) but I'm a little intimidated on how to go about doing it. The article was mentioning FID and BH-FID or something like that, and to tell you the truth I'm a little confused.
I know it may involve connecting the "Golden Bridges" (with a pencil) but anything else? Do i also have to make those cuts with an exacto knife?

Basically what I'm asking is if there are any step-by step instructions for overclocking an AMD processor.

Also are there any other suggestions on speed? Does anyone know if 700mhz are just as easily overclocked?

Any help would be greatly appreciated...
thanks

The step by step instructions are as follows:
1) Connect L1 bridges
2) Set a new speed in your KT7 BIOS

That's it. Doesn't get much simpler than this...

Having said that, there are things you need to take into consideration... How are you gonna connect the bridges? I've seen 3 diferent methods so far; I went for the conductive pen -- but that's an extra $10.
What CPU speed are you going to get and at what core voltage? I run my Duron 600 at 928MHz and 1.6v. It hits 1GHz at 1.75v, but I don't run it that high.
What cooling are you going to get for you overclocked CPU? I got a ChromeOrb, but there is better... (BTW -- there is a new ver. ov ChromeOrb made especially for the KT7)
How comfortable are you overclocking? You know that when you connect those bridges you void your warranty, right?

If you've never overclocked before, I'd recommend reading as much as you can on the subject, preferably on respectable sites. Start with this article: http://www.anandtech.com/printarticle.html?i=1345

Good luck!
