I have an MSI GF4 Ti 4400 and I want to overclock it. What software and/or hardware settings do I need to configure? Do I need to download a utility or patch or can I just change the videocard settings in Windows XP?

What I did is install the MSI drivers, then the latest Nvidia's (29.42's) ...so I have the MSI OC panel built into my display properties panel. (This is in WinXP) ...it has the ability to maintain settings on reboot, I actually just started using it this afternoon and so far my mem is up to about 600MHz (300) with no probs and significant performance boosts... core will be next. There's really no need for external utilities with this fine card.

I have the same Ti4400 card and it runs very well at 600/300 and more. I'm a little reluctant to OC it more than that because the RAM chips on the board are quite hot to the touch.

Are your RAM chips very hot?

What's your feeling about those tin-coated copper BGA RAM sinks? I have a set of them but I'm reluctant to install them because if the RAM fails, their installation will have voided my warranty.

bwass24 - go to staples and buy a roll of double sided clear tape. it is very thin, and has pretty dang good thermal transfer and it won't ding up your card.

I became worried about heat also, while I didn't check how hot they were to the touch, I noticed that going 608MHz and beyond started to slow performance vs increase it, signalling that the extra heat was preventing better performance. Similar with my core past a certain point... for now I am at default settings, I may try ramsinks and a new HSF in a month or so... I'll keep that tape example in mind.

I just got my MSI ti4400, and i have not overclocked yet. I have the same case as the alienware systems with a side window and a fan which blows directly over the graphics cards heatsink and memory. I think that this would aid in cooling, but I wanted to get some other opinions.

bmdavll,

I had to run a reg hack called "cool bits" to overclock my Visiontek. When I ran cool bits it allowed me to access a tab under display properties (settings, advanced, GeForce 4 TAB, additional settings and then clock frequencies). I had to allow the card to "test" the new settings and then I had to check the box that says "apply these settings at start-up".

I tried looking for cool bits for a friend and I was not able to find it. I'll look again for you/him more today (monday).
