Overclocking the T-Bird 800....Know how???

Alrite, like the topics says, I've tried overclocking my T-bird by adjusting the FSB through the Bios on my pc and the max I can pump out is 856 Stable but when I put my network card in it, the system just crashes occasionally. Thus, limiting my only option to overclock by using the multiplier. I've checked my T-bird chip, the L1 bridges are all closed (Aren't they all closed??) Does that mean that I have an unlock chip?? Is it possible to overclock it then?? If I do need to do some locking, would a conventional pencil do it regardless of wether it is 2b or bb??

I read in some site saying that I can overclock it using the Dip switches on my board. I have the latest Asus A7V and is very keen on doing it. Do I need to do any modifications on the chip?? I'm in a dilemma trying to figure out which bridge to close. As far as I can see, there was once a review by Tom's hardware that if the L1 bridges are closed, then I can use the Dip switches to overclock. How true is that??

Enlighten me please..... 😉

How high can it go anyway??..hehe..just curious

If the L1 bridges are closed (ie not blown with a small hole with a laser) all you need to do is set your mobo for jumper mode (as apposed to jumper-free) set switches 5 and 6 on then set the switches 1 thru 4 to the desired muliplyer. Crank up the settings after testing at each speed. Vcore will probably need to be tweaked to get the higher speed.

Ok, seems your chip is unlocked if the lines are all solid (not broken).
One thing i always here is fbs overclocking is worse for the chip then multiplyer. Also, the tbird isnt going very high with just fsb. What you goto do is, look in your manual and set the board to jumper mode. Then follow the diagrams inside the book to get the right dipswitch combos. I got my tbird 900 to 1050. Another thing u might wanna try is changing the I/O voltage up, (look in the manual for the jumper) and that might take care of the network card.

Alrite, it seems that I'm ready to go. Just hoping that I'll at least do 900 Mhz with a normal stock fan. What fans do you guys recommend (besides the Golden Orb)? I'm in a budget here so I won't be able to get a high-end fan. Where would I get these babies?? Is artic silver that good in decreasing the cpu's heat??

What core and I/O voltage is appropriate and will not do any harm on the chip? How would I know if i have a blue T-bird? I just got it bout 2-3 weeks ago.
