Got the thing home last night and tried to OC on my NF7-S and a new stick of HyperX PC4000 (which will amazingly do 11-3-3-2 timings at DDR400 :p). First attempt was 11x200 (2.2 GHz) at 1.65V, and it was stable. Started ratcheting up the multiplier and finally got to 12x200 stably at 1.85V, but it was fluctuating between 1.85V and 1.78V, so a new PSU is in order, and hopefully this thing will go a bit farther.

When I put the chip in my spare A7N8X Deluxe (rev 1.04) it wouldn't boot at 12x200 or 11.5x200. The problem is that the board can only hit 200FSB before it gets a bit flaky. Would the "wire mod" be a good candidate here (I'll have to do it to get the voltage up to 1.85 anyways because it only allows 0.2V over stock)?

EDIT: While I'm feeling adventurous, what bridge needs to be cut\joined to enable the extra L2 cache?

maybe i'm on wrong but i thought the cache could only be enabled on the applebreds not the durons.... but i could be completely wrong....

if you can't hit 200 mhz on the a7n8x.. you should just try higher mults and lower fsb's... unless it's locked then you can cut bridges and stuff and i don't remember which ones to cut :)

good luck though... looks very promising!!! :)

The Asus did 200MHz FSB with my Barton, so it's up to par. The higher multiplier was messing things up on the Asus, but that may be because of the voltage being limited to 1.75V . This Duron curiously comes up as a Tbred instead of an Applebred (which it should) in CPU-Z.

According to that, it's the last L2 bridge that needs to be connected to enable the extra cache, but that looks like the old packaging, unlike the new chips that are kinda see-thru (you can see traces on the top of the CPU). Did they remap the bridges on the new packaging?

That's a pretty nice OC. It will perform even better when you can get the extra cache activated.

Hehe, you just don't know about Durons because you have a 2.5ghz Athlon64.:D
