System:
P5e3 Premium wifi motherboard, Q9650 cpu, OCZ 12800(1600) ram (2x2gigs) in black slots, Radeon HD 4870 x2.

Final bios tweaks (took 6 iterations and about two hours using an Excel spreadsheet):

asus p5e3
AI TWEAKS

Multi= 9
FSB 380
Mem 1216
Timings 777248
NBStrap 333
PCIE 100
MemVolts=1.95
CPUVolts-1.32
Crate=1n
static read control=disabled
dynamic write control=disabled
AiTwist=auto
transaction booster=auto
FSBTVolt 1.3
cpupllVolts 1.5
NBVolt 1.4
spread spectrum=disabled for both
NBCLOCKSKEW=100
CPUCLOCKSKEW=300
C1e= disable
cpuID= disable
Vanderpool=disable
ExecuteDisableBit=enable
memoryremap=enable
gtl ref.value .66
nb gtl 0.67
SBVoltage auto
clock overcharging voltage .9
cpu clockskew delay=100
Loadlinecalibration=enable

The machine is now stable and cpu temps at rest are around 31 C. Motherboard temps are around 35 C.

This isn't a fantastic overclock, by any means, but seems adequate for a higher end gaming rig.

If anyone has any suggestions or opinions on this, please let me know!

Q9650...you should be doing 4+ GHz.

Or if you want really low vcore, you could stay where you are now, but you should be able to lower your vcore a lot.

Yes, it did 3.9+ on 1.3. :) I'm going to move it back in a couple of days. It's only been up a few hours so far.
Also, I'm going to give AI twist a chance this weekend.
But, the memory doesn't like the heights, and the heat levels rose quite a bit at 3.9. As I recall the cpu hit 37 C almost immediately, motherboard was 42 C. This is my daughter's computer, so I don't want to go high because she isn't here-she's at college 100 miles away. It would be a pain to try to fix it over the phone. ;)
Some of these quads just don't like a big overclock, unlike the 2 bangers.

Acceptance is the first step in the Nine Point Cure to Overclocking. :)

Just for my information, what is your daughter going to use it for that she needs an already top-of-the-line quad-core overclocked? Thats one cool dad!

Are you just having fun in BIOS to see what that baby can do, or are you going to try and get it stable and keep the OC?

Also, a 37C idle on a quad at 3.9ghz is a great temp. If the memory is having a hard time keeping a certain ratio, you should be able to change it so that you underclock it.

LOL!

You guys are incorrigible. :)

We are just having fun with this machine for gaming. We've also only been through six iterations of bios values, so we will probably need another 6 to get it right, as you know with a new system. I'll post the final changes next week.
