i am trying to overclock the e8500 on a rampage formula.i was able to get it prime stable with loadline calibration enble with 1.25v VID(cpu-z 1.23)

however i have read that enabling the loadline calibration on the 45nm cpu is not a wise move, therefore i disable it and increase my VID to 1.281v and try to run prime.in windows(cpu-z) it reads 1.24 at idle and 1.21 running prime.after running for 30mins,an rounding error occurred.then i try increasing the VID.i have noted that no matter how high is the VID.it will only give 1.21v when running prime which is not enough to maintain stability.

what can i do to make it stable?is enabling the loadline calibration the only option to go?

edit:forgot to mention my target speed is 4ghz

The loadline calibration can cause problems on an over-clocked system when you are doing something that doesn't load your system like cruising the internet. If you have this problem then you can RMA the board and get one that doesn't do it. In other words try it out and see if you have a problem with crashes under low load situations. Not everyone has the problem, it's a luck of the draw thing. Do you have legacy USB disabled in the bios. I had it set to auto because my USB keyboard wouldn't work right and got rounding errors and memory failures in every other test I tried. Disabled legacy USB and used my PS2 keyboard and no more problems. This is an ASUS board problem, Intel boards had a bios update for it, not sure if the newer ASUS bios deals with this or not.

i have not problems of any sort when loadline calibration is enabled.the problems when i disabled it,but the problem is still minor.only when i run stability test with prime95,an rounding error occur. other than that,i dun have any problem.

You only have the rounding problem when LLC is disabled? Haven't seen that one anywhere. I am a almost total noob when it comes to overclocking. Got my E6600 to 3.0 on my other system but I'm still reading up on the Rampage. I go to XtremeSystems forums for info. Go to the Intel section. The Rampage thread is usually on the first or second page, the 8400-8500 thread is usually there also.

That's something to check when I start overclocking. I've been slowly dealing with temp issues on my system. I think I have them just about as low as possible. Still get about 47 to 50C running Prime at stock speeds. Was getting 54 before changing some fans. I would think you can leave LLC enabled if you don't have any problems with it yet, and deal with it if something does show up. The low load crash is the only thing I have read about. And you have to be overclocked for that to happen. Enabling it on a stock system causes no problems.

i system is currently overclock to 4ghz.and has always been overclocked.enabling the LLC is perfectly fine on my system.its only when i disable it causes rounding error.and i know the error is because of insufficient voltage. however the load voltage seems to cap at 1.21 with LLc disabled.i am wondering why is this happening
