Overclocking the 5770.

I just got my new rig in the mail thanks to ups taking 2 weeks for 3 day service. Now that I'm up and running I'm just playing around and found out that my video card runs at 52C when fully overclocked in CCC 960/1445 40% fan speed.

My question is should I go further, and if so, what utility would work best for this?

Don't go any further. CCC's max is that way for a reason, unless you want to wait for a month after you blow your card; shipping it back (2 weeks) them reviewing it (bout a week) then 2 more weeks to get it back.

better stay with that setup and don't go any further... it will just cause you more problems.. =) if you want more perhaps there's the 5850 around the corner...
 
Yes Ive seen them go to 1000 core. Go for it man use Msi afterburner (google).
Worse thing is you might get some artifacs.

Just so you know, the 5xxx cards don't artifact like normal cards. They have some sort of error correction. So, while you might think you have a stable clock, you're actually losing performance.

Most people with those clocks increase the voltage. You'll need MSI Afterburner for this, and you'll likely need to flash your 5770 bios to ones that have unlocked voltage control.

Here's a method to test if your clocks are stable:

Run a heavy benchmarking utility (Crysis benchmark, 3DMark, etc). Record the results. Then, increase the voltage. Record the results. Keep doing this until maybe 1.25v or even 1.3v (though that can get a little too hot). If your clocks aren't stable, you'll notice performance increases with increased voltage. You'd have to find where it stops increasing, and that's how you get it stable.
 
Thanks for the responses, everyone. I will keep in mind as I start upping the clocks about not going too far. I just assumed if it wasn't running hot, then there was really no issues.

I figured a voltage bump was in order soon, so I'll post with the final results either later tonight or tomorrow.

IMO, run Furmark. Should break an unstable overclock fairly fast.
 
I ended up getting to 1020/1400. I'm leaving it at 940/1300 for 24/7 operations. I don't want to kill this card too quickly.

Lol, it's called, one man army. MSI (just like evga) is paying this Russian guy, creator of RivaTuner for that piece of software. From what I understand it's part of RivaTuner with a new skin over it...

BTW, speaking of overclocking the 5770... CCC's automatic overclocking gave my 5770, 950/1435 but for safe measures I have it at 935/1250...

CCC gave me 930/1410 on my mine but it was unstable in Furmark. To totally get rid of the studders and occasional lockup on Furmark I had to drop mine all the way to 890/1375. Furmark WILL test your stability and quite fast too!
