A couple of months ago i purchased a new system which consists of
A64 Venice 3000+ (with Swiftech H2O-FB water cooling)
Abit AN8 Fatal1ty Sli Mobo
2x 512mb Corsair CMX4400C25 (Should run upto 275MHz)
Winfast 7800GTX
250Gb Samsung Sata II
Tagan TG580-U22 PSU
Apart from the water cooling being slightly challenging to fit, putting the system together went smoothly. On first boot nothing happened and after research found that had to reset CMOS then boot into bios and increase DRAM voltage to 2.7 as default 2.6 did not boot. So the boot problem was fixed. Windows installed and everything seemed fine, updated and run a few stress tests. SuperPi, memtest and Prime95. No problems.
Started over clocking things seemed fine until the Ram reaches roughly 230MHz. This is when it fails tests, etc. A few things ive noticed: Ram in slots 1,2 runs dual T1, but in slots 3,4 dual T2. More stable in slots 3,4 but still does not overclock.
At the moment im running in single channel mode with slots 1,3. Ram set to auto in bios, as manual or SPD doesnt boot. I am currently running at HTT 250Mhz, Cpu speed 2.25Ghz, but ram set to 333 divider, therefore running at 205Mhz. I bought this ram so that i would not need a memory divider, but it seems i am using one. The system is not completely stable in these settings either, occasionaly it will not boot into windows and freezes on the windows loading screen. In Cpu-z it says my SPD max bandwidth is PC3200 (200Mhz) from what i know it should be PC4400 (275Mhz).
I have some experience of overclocking but this was a major project for me. What i have concluded is that i either have faulty ram, mem controller or cpu (mem controller on cpu) if that makes any sense?!
If anyone could tell me exactly what tests to run to determine the core of this problem it would be greatly appreciated. Or any advice or help. I think ive mentioned everything, if you need any more info please ask!
***Cpu did overclock to about 2.9Ghz stable but this could not be sustained when finding the ram limits.
