Hi, I have recently updated my cheap PC, with a SL-K8AN2E-GR, A64 2800+ NewCastle, 512 PQI Power Memory DDR400 PC3200, 2.5,4,4,8 default latencies, plus a SAPPHIRE RADEON 9800 Atlantis.
I've readed a lot about overclocking, I never overclocked before, so now, I have lot of cuestions.
I tried to do it via the Nvidia system utility, but never got stability (BSOD several times), so i headed directly to BIOS, and simply increased the FSB from 200 to 224, and raised the vcore voltage to 1.50 (was 1.45), didn't moved any other configuration, just that, so i obtained (224x9) 2016 Mhz, this speed is enough for me, dont want to risk my system.
I tested the system with Nbench utility for about 30 minutes with no errors, and torture test with prime95 (not long time) it boots fine, install games fine, windows runs applications fine, but i get some random errors playing Half Life 2 (sound locks problems and hanging, NO BSOD, NO REBOOTS), past 15-30 minutes playing, NFSU2 runs fine, my temp raised to 50° readed by BIOS, and 48° readed by Soltek Monitor on stock cooling, after playing by 1 hour NFSU2 and 2 half life crashes.
Well, my questions are:
1.- Have I done it OK?, or I'm missing something?, RAM Ratios?, multipliers?, HTT?, so many things!!!
2.- In this particular board is my RAM running at 224, or its locked to 200 by AUTO setting on BIOS?, I don't think this memory can even boot at this speed, or is it doing it?, AGP is locked to 66.
3.- Why BIOS temps and Soltek Monitor are differents?, what temp is safe form me?
4.- Why the reporting tool from bios, and soltek monitor, tells me that my vcore voltage is 1,45, if i raised it to 1.50?.
5.- The inestabilty of half life 2 may be caused by overclocking?, uhmmmm, i havent yet played it with no OC to try, stupid me.
6.- I'm having some random slowdowns in half life, is my system enough to run it at meduim quality?
7.- What chances are to frie my system if I try more speed, where can i get with this combo safely?,
8.- My room temp is not so cold, i live in the TROPICO, I instaled, 1 REAR extract FAN, 1 SIDE extract FAN, 1 SLOT TYPE extract FAN just besides the Radeon, and 1 REAR BLOWING IN fan, is this enough?
And lots and lots and lots of cuestions, thats enough for now.
If anyone has the same combo, i would appreciate your recomendations.
