Overclocking Safetly: How do I do it?

I have a pentium III 450mhz. Recently I downloaded PC Mark and it told me I can saftely overclock to 600mhz which would be great, increasing my gaming experience and allowing me to play at higher speeds. One thing: I haven't a clue how to overclock through bios, can someone give me a quick rundown?

My system specs are more or less unkown to me, except this:

My PC is an IBM PC 300PL
I have 192mb of Ram
Geoforce 4 MX440
I have a 10/100 network card
Motherboard: Unkown
Bios Version: Unkown

Help would be much appreciated.

Probably not gonna be possible. I doubt IBM supplied an adjustable FSB selection in the BIOS or via jumpers. If you could up the FSB, your success may depend on your CPU cooling and other components (RAM). Just because a CPU has the theoretical capacity to reach a higher speed does not mean that your other system components will allow it.

Most people with Dell/Gateway/Compaq/IBM/HP computers are SOL when it comes to overclocking. The best chance is to use a software-based overclocking program, if one exists for your setup. However, I've heard that many have not gotten the best results with these programs.

softfsb is a software based ocing progrm
i havnt used it, but ive herad about it

other than that, i also dont think ibm would allow much, if any, ocing thru the bios

wow, thats a slow comp, overclocking (saying if softFSB works)would prolly just ruin it forcing you to spend $$$ to fix it. just build a new.

my 2 cents.

wow, thats a slow comp

That was unnecassarily rude & obnoxiuos:disgust: ,a PIII 450 would still be plenty fast enough for surfing the net & basic office type uses.
And hasn't it crossed your mind that maybe he doesn't have the spare cash to build a new machine?

Overclocking his PIII (if it were possible) wouldn't ruin his components ,worse case scenario, if he were able to run at higher FSB he could cause data corruption on his HDD if he didn't have 1/4 PCI divider .

Try the advice I gave in this thread, it's all about the PLL for the software overclocking, if your PLL isn't there then you can submit it and it'll be added to the list in future revision. If it's hard loced and the other FSB options aren't there you're just SOOL.
