"Overclocking" Refreshrate wtih Powerstrip

How safe or rather unsafe is it for me to bump my refresh rate up to the max with Powerstrip? Im talking in the range of 2hz past the spec which is 3hz past the windows setting. It works, and the monitor blanks out if it cant handle any more. Im just wondering if this is going to damage the hardware.

If i can leave it like this, i might get used to 1920x1440@ 74hz, otherwise my 1600x1200 @ 87hz can be up to 89.

Thanks

No expert here (so do at Your on risk), but I'd say that it would be alright if Your Monitor can hold that setting... However I heard that it could shorten the life of Your Monitor... I myself run my Monitor as high as it will go (I use: Right Click on Desktop > Properties > Settings > Advanced Settings) : presently I'm at 800x600@120Hz for about 2yrs... Everything seems fine.

Hi,

Can you notice 2Hz difference? Can you afford a nice new monitor if that one goes pop?

Seriously, I've seen some monitors die in spectacular displays of light and sound (big pop). I wouldn't reccomend it unless the OS was restricting you way below what you know the manufacturers spec. to be.

Good luck,

Andy
