I have a hercules 3Dprophet III Ti200 and I have it OC'ed from 175/400 to 222/466 (highest core/mem speed which the card runs both stable and without white pixel errors) now I'm having some questions ...

- does this Overclock do permanent damage to the card ?
- should I better step a bit lower than the limit (223/468 is unstable and has white pix) for better life duration ?
- what is a good OC vidcard stresstest (like prime95 but then for GPU's instead of CPU's ...)

I intend to have this card at least for over 6 months so I'd like to know If I can keep it overclocked or not ...

when you put stress on anything it can shorten the life span but most cards have a 5 year warranty and no one keeps a video card that long.

If you run it at the maximum speed without artifacts, snow or glitches it will last a long time. Extra cooling would help longevity, but I think lower case temps would actually be more important than more GPU cooling or ramsinks, although those certainly help as well.
Overclocking has to shorten life somewhat, but with the proper precautions you will should have no problems lasting a couple of years.

my case temps vary between 30 and 32 without the overclock and between 32 and 35 with the overclock, is this a bad sign ?

cous 35 looks a little much, in the summer it might even reach 40 ...

(all degrees celcius)

That's not too bad but it could be better. I usually run about 28C-30C in the summer and 24C-26C in the winter. 40C is really high, even for summer temps. I'd suggest either more case fans and/or a case with better airflow. Of course, these temps rise when palying a game of Q3A, etc., but I've never seen my case temp go past 32C.

I remember my first geforce i oc'd it was bought used . I had put a bigger heatsink on it and ram sinks. Thinking this would do it well it did very well for the first month. Second month I had artificates. The card had died of to high of a oc. Was it me or the previous owner that had oc'd it
