Overclocking RAM

I've ordered my 3200 Winchester and MSI K8N Neo2 Plat. and my next upgrade will be my RAM. I'm looking to get at least 260FSB out of it (for 2.6ghz), possibly more if i get a good chip and my cooling is sufficient. Which RAM is the best to go for?

Originally i was going to go for Geil Ultra-X after seeing the review here at AT, but theres also some other kinds to consider. Crucial Ballistix PC4000 looks like another good choice and I've heard nothing but good thing about OCZ (thought exactly which type I'm not sure). Corsair doesn't seem to be "so" good at overclocking, though please correct me if I'm wrong.

Basically I'm looking to get a nice high-ish FSB (like i said around 260-270) with the best timings possible. What's the best to choose?

Thanks in advance.

Just curious have you tried any oc on this cpu. Not sure how you know if you will even hit that high. Remember not all chips are the same. Even though there have been some insane oc with winchesters is not to say you will have the same luck. Just wondering what sort of cooling are you using on the cpu and on the mobo. And what type of temps do you have at stock speeds right now.

I don't claim to be an expert on high end ram but I read somewhere that Ballistic is some of the best ram at 255fsb and under so that may be a factor if your shooting for 260fsb. Ballistic should still hit 260 but probably with looser timmings than the others.

Crucial Ballistix PC4000, PC3200 just can't handle the pressure when I o/c to 2600 for some reason... Mines a AMD 3500+ 130 nm btw...

Well I've done some forum trolling on the website I'm buying the stuff from and almost every single person there reccomend the Crucial Ballistix. People are hitting 250FSB with 2.5-2-2-5 timings, and thats a lot of people too. I reckon if i just slackened the timings, I should be able to get 260 (some people were getting as high as 280).

@NoHeat: if you read carefully i've said i "ordered" my cpu and mobo, im just planning ahead :) . If i dont get to 260FSB then so be it, though with the performance of other peoples' 3200 Winchesters, i would very suprised if i didn't.

For the CPU: Thermaltake XP-90 with a YS-Tech 92mm Fan.
Case: Antec Super Lanboy.
Mods: (1) Cutting out a hole in the perspex side and ducting the CPU fan straight out of it. (2) A slight modification of this: Cheap As Free Air Cooling Mod.

Yes, I've heard good things about Crucial Ballistix. Also OCZ has gotten good reviews. I would do some research to see exactly how your mobo responds to the switch to 90nm processors. Find out what BIOS versions address this and also try and find a "compatibility" list for the memory. The memory controller on the 939 processors can be a bit finicky at times, so brand of memory is VERY important. Not everything will work. As I said above, I know that Ballistix and OCZ works well. I would be hesitant to buy corsair, as there seem to be many issues with that and the nForce3 mobos. One last thing - although the die has shrunk on the processor, the heat generated has not. You're gonna need some good cooling, esp if you plan on hitting 260 FSB.

Good luck!!

@flawlssdistortn: The mobo works fine with the 90nm Processors, no BIOS Flash nessacery :) . I mentioned my cooling in the post above yours :) .

The new mushkin black L2 v2 is awesome as well.. basically the same as OCZ plat 2. Try to make sure you get a brand new chip, as Samsung has recently refined their die process. With vdimm boosters the new TCCD chips are able to hold timings of 2-2-2 at amazingly high FSB speeds.. BH-5 is a thing of the past.
