overclocking radeon 9600pro

hey this is my first post here in the forums of anandtech but ive been visiting for ages. anyway im overclocking my radeon 9600pro with v-tuner the overclock tool i got with the card. the highest core clock i can get is 481mhz, mem 332mhz. i cant go any higher than 481mhz with v-tuner but tools like powerstrip could they allow me to get to 500 and so on. maybe v-tuner is limited by my computer hardware? is that the case or how can i get higher core clock out of it.

amd athlon 1.2ghz (i know im getting new mobo and processor soon)
768mb SDRAM (new mobo new DDR mem)
Radeon 9600pro
sound blaster live
Trigem Santa Fe mobo (i didnt know this company existed until i found out what mobo i have)

Are you saying the highest setting v-tuner has is 481/332 or that if you oc past those speed with v-tuner it gets unstable? If it's the first, it's simply how the software was made. Maybe they set it like that so wouldn't be as likely to damage the card. If it's the latter, the I'm not sure what the reason would be. Anyway, glad you joined, welcome to the forums

yeh i think it may be the safest overclock possible. so should i try powerstrip? or do you reccommend any other tools? and does your cpu or mobo effect how much you can overclock a GPU?

No your cpu and mobo has no bearing on how much you can overclock your gpu. That's a pretty good overclock so far, whether you want to push it further it completely up to you. And powerstrip should be fine, I usually use it myself for overclocking.

hey thanks for that, ill use powerstrip then to get it up to 500 no problems then
