overclocking question

I have a cpu that i unlocked it was 9x100=900 i am going to take it to 6x150=900 will this still be overclocked. How should temps be? would stock fan be ok at this speed?

Why would you want to do that? The idea is to make it go faster not stay the same. Heat problems generally only arise when you start increasing the CPU core volatage. Make sure you know how to overclock by reading how to do so on several websites. Just type "overclocking" into any search engine and it will find lots of sites offering guides on how to do it.

actually a 6x150 chip system would be much faster than a 9x100 system. This was actually very popular "clocking" back when old pentiums were around.

People would take the multiplier down and then increase the bus from 66 to 75 which increased overall performance even when the overall speed were same.

The only problem here is that this overclocking would be difficult to achieve. I don't know what kind of CPU you're using but i've never seen a 100 mhz cpu run at a 150mhz w/o some major cooling. Not to mention your PCI, and RAM clock speed is out of spec and this will cause system instability.
Most PC133 an PC2100 RAMS will be unstable at such a high clock speed and cause many problems.


More realistic clocking would be to keep your bus at 133

Also the CPU heat is related to bus speed more than core voltage.

When I underclocked my XP form 133 to 100, the cpu temp dropped 5c.
When I dropped the voltage from 1.75 to 1.65 the temp stayed the same.

Actually I've even heard from people overclocking PIIIs that increasing voltage actually dropped their temp. Not sure if this is true though.

its an amd athlon cpu on a abit kt7a mobo with two 120mm fans one pulling air (ront) in other (top) out,t wo 80mm fans on side bringing in air.power supply and one more 80mm pulling air out. Vantec fce4060d heat sink with delta 7000 rpm fan but think of buying a 92mm to 60mm adapter

Sounds like you got a good ventilation system going but believe me, doing a 50% increase in bus speed isnt something any air-cooled system can do. It's just too much. Even after you do get it to post to 150, it might even not boot to windows since all your componets clock speeds are out of spec.
