Overclocking question regarding XP 2100 + retail HSF *gasps*

Yeah, I just have the retail HSF on there... I really don't have any desire to overlock it to some extreme speed, just maybe bump it up so it runs at around 1800mhz. I have the AGOIA version of the processor, which the people on www.overclockers.com have been able to push to 1800mhz + using air cooling.

Would it be safe to just put it at 1800mhz and leave it?

My CPU is already running at around 55 degrees C when it's doing nothing, and 60 after a short gaming period. Is that bad? Normal? I was told that this CPU runs hot, but should it be running *that* hot?

Thanks for any replys that you can afford me.
 
Personally...socket a temps are hard to decipher...What mobo????

I would personally be scared about 55c idle and a 60c temp which is likely far from loading conditions...I bet you run prime or some cpu intensive encoding program for more then hour and you will see temps in the mid 60's easy....

Now even figuring in known mobo with high temp readings I would be a little worried and not push it.

What hsf are you using??? Retail??? I would think about using some as3 if not....reapply if you did. I would have expected idle around 48c and full load 58c...should be okay....Also even jumping that minute 66mhz may recore a vcore boost (slight but a boost). That will only raise teps buy itself and not figurring in the additional mhz...
 
I built a PC for a friend recently, using a 2100+ retail.....

We replaced the heatsink for an Alpha 8045 as soon as I saw how hot it was running.

And he doesn't overclock....

Wow, my XP1600+ at 2000+ & .025v extra idles at about 45-47C with my el cheapo Big Rock II hsf. This reading is from the socket thermistor. I haven't paid much attention to temps, tho, so I don't know how it runs consistently under different conditions. I'll load it up and see if it hits 60C. Room temps about 78F btw.

you might want an better heatsinkfan combo if you're thinking of overclocking..

I just replaced my noisy vocano 6cu with one of these svc g68's http://www.svcompucycle.com/newsvcgc3280.html

dropped a few degrees C, and dropped the noise a whole lot for 6 bucks + shipping.. not a bad deal..


also want to point out the AX-7 which ive read a lot of good reviews on, a definate must have if you're overclocking the 2100+
