Overclocking question (FSB)

Ok im finally ordering my parts. Either a 2400+ or 2100+
8RDA+
Radeon 9700 pro
Have sx835 /w antec 350watt ps. Will add 2 more fans for total of 2 front 2 back
Crucial or Hyundia pc2700

Now whart i want to do it up the cpu speed to get the most out of it as possible
What are the nomal setting for each cpu muli x fsb??

Now my questions, whats a good hsf to get Volcano 7?

Overclocking, from what ive read is easy, i should have enough cooling but my main questions relate to the increase of fsb. Multiplier is for cpu but increasing fbs increases fbs of the rest of the system. Would i have to worry about my videocard then getting to hot or burning out along with the rest of my hardware? Give me some incite


I mean im getting rid of my p4 1.8ghz

if you go with the new system
you wont have to worry about the fsb pushing the pci/agp bus out of spec because the 8RDA+ has pci/agp lock i think
Id say go with the 2400+ but im not that keen on amd systems.
Sounds like its gonna be a nice comp either way you go

The p4 isnt that bad either.
is that motherboard overclockable?
too bad its on Rambus it doesnt overclock too well

Id say get the amd system with the 2400+ and overclock it. That would be good

Your motherboard is as good as it gets.

I'd say get the 2100+ Thoroughbred Revision B from Newegg or Excaliberpc, you'd save a few bucks and probably get about the exact same overclock as the 2400+.

If you want to go higher than a 166MHz FSB, try getting PC3000 or PC3200 DDR, preferably HyperX or Corsair XMS.

I would NOT recommend the volcano 7 for a heat sink, just from personal experience. I'd say get the SLK-800 from SVC.com and put on your choice of a 70mm fan. Don't forget to get some arctic silver 3.

Overclocking is definitely easy with the right parts. I just started a month ago and it already seems like I'm an expert at it. On the 8RDA+, the CPU FSB and the memory FSB can be manipulated individually. PCI slots are locked at 33MHz and you can choose for your AGP slot to be locked at 66MHz regardless of what your FSB is.
