Overclocking Q6600

Core Voltage = 1.4

Running a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R board.
Patriot 4GB DDR2 800 5-5-5-12
Thermalright Ultra 120 w/ 12c Scythe fan

Target Frequency = 3.0Ghz.

Right now I'm stuck at 266mhz FSB. No matter what I do I can't bump up the FSB any higher. It just automatically defaults back to 266. Is there something I'm missing here?

CPU-Z Validation page here.

Set mult=8,fsb-401,multilier=2.0,vcore=1.375 for starters. Thats 3.2 if it works, try 9x401, and step down 5 mhz until stable (at least thats what I did) 3.5 is very doable, but I think I bumbed up vcore to 1.425, under load was 1.5 to get 3510 stable.

333x9 is 3.0ghz.

force the memory to 800mhz with the 2.5x memory multi.

1.375v as mark said should be plenty.

You shouldnt need to increase the voltage for vfsb, vdimm, or the north bridge.

Hold on a second, why on earth would you need 1.4V to get 3GHz? This is a G0 right? With a TRUE-120?

In any case, what are your RAM settings and do you happen to have 4x1GB?

What about the memory multiplier? It probably sets it to the maximum frequency of the SPD by default.

I just looked at the validation link and it looks like that's the case. You RAM was set to DDR2-800 already so when you tried overclocking, the memory got pushed beyond specs. Try setting the memory multiplier to 2.00 (actually with DDR2-800 and 9x333, you could get away with 2.40)

Also, sometimes on my DS3P, it's more stable if you set the memory settings first, reboot and then set the FSB. Really odd but it works.
