Q6600
Asus P5K-E
2GB Crucial Ballistix Tracers PC6400 4-4-4-12
eVGA 8800 GT Superclocked
Antec 900 case with 5x 120 mm fans and 1x 200 mm fan
Intel Stock CPU Cooler

Would i be able to Overclock my system with this CPU Cooler? i will not be able to get my Thermalright Ultra 120-Extreme for 4 months or so...

How would i go about with overclocking?? Very very new with bios..i have never worked with changing these before..so if anyone can...please help me in these steps, one by one!!

Thankyou all !! :wine:

I got my ASUS P5K-E wifi about two week ago, and just started overclocking again, the last comp I overclocked was my old Tualatin celeron...lol
I have an e6600 using the stock Intel HSF running at 3Ghz right now no problems
in the jumperfree bios section i have it set like this:
NB Strap: 333
FSB: 333
PCI: 100mhz
dram speed: 667mhz (1:1)
memory timing: 4-4-3-11
dram voltage: 1.9v
cpu voltage: 1.4 (actually 1.28 reported in bios\cpu-z because of vdrop issues with my current bios version)
everything else on auto
idles around 38*c, but I did use OCZ silver paste instead of the intel stuff.

since your comp is quad core it might not make it that high, defualt you run at 266mhz FSB, try going for 300mhz FSB then move up from there if it's stable. What bios version are you running? you might have to set your cpu voltage to 1.4 also since it's really only 1.28

Right now I'm getting 3.2ghz on a Intel HSF.

FSB 355
Multiplier x 9

Vcore - 1.3375 (I think it's 1.33something)
Ram - 2.1V
The rest on auto.

Motherboard - EVGA 680i (P31 bios)
Antec 900 (all fans on high)

I'm waiting for my fan controller from the manufacturer (missing from Zerotherm Nirvana!) before i install my heatsink.

Temps at max hit 70 during the stress test (only for a few secs) then drops down to 65 during heavy loads of the testing.

Idle was around 39-40.

What was funny was that I couldn't get it stable at 3ghz but at 3.2 it was stable no problem. From what I've read, there's a FSB hole with my bios version.

I'm a noob at O/C'ing but that's how I got mine stable... I'm waiting for my fan controller from the manufacturer (missing from Zerotherm Nirvana!) before i install my heatsink and then configure a few other settings and such.

Read my signature. I have the same chip and same video (but your RAM may be even a bit better than mine, for overclocking). Mine's a generic case but it has lots of slots for fans so I filled 'em all up. I run nice and cool with stock HSF even though I'm overclocked.

Normally, overclocking RAM doesn't help much unless you need to do so to match an *extremely* overclocked FSB (DDR2-800 memory bus speed matches 1600MHz FSB speed 1:1, so you need to be running faster than 1600MHz FSB). What CPU/FSB are you running?

Not from these forums but if you scroll down a bit on that guide it shows you a lot of common set-ups with fsb and multipliers, of course every Q6600 is different, some will OC to 4ghz or higher, some won't even be able to go above 2.7, all depends on your luck I suppose, though the average seems to be about 3-3.6ghz
