Hello,

I am new to overclocking and recently I tried overclocking my Athlon XP 1700+. It is not unlocked so I tried doing it by using the FSB. I got the FSB to 143 but Windows error messages were showing up. At 144 and 145 it would not boot. I lowered the FSB and it became stable at 140. Why wont it go higher? At 140 FSB the CPU temp was around 39-42. I have an Abit KR7A, 512 MB Crucial at CL=2. Could the problem be in the SB! Live Value? I have heard it has problems with overclocking.

You may need to increase voltage to the chip and/or ram. You may also want to tweak your ram settings.

There is also the possiblility that you chip will not go any higher. What stepping is the CHIP?

Hmm. I'm not too sure, I'd look but I dont wanna take off the heatsink, I guess I'll just leave it at 140 because I get nervous with that voltage stuff, If I wreck computer It shall take me very long to get a new one because I have no job but Im a student so like dont think im a loser because i have no job

Arighty,
I decided to get "risky?" and I upped the Vcore to 1.85. I got the FSB up to 146 and the computer is stable. Could I get any higher by upping the DDR voltage?

Thank you
Justin
