UPDATE: I'm a freaking retard and for some reason put my SATA HD on port 1, instead of 3 or 4, even though I knew 1 and 2 aren't locked.
Right now I'm running 245x9 = 2.2ghz @ 1.4V, and it's rock solid. Thanks anyway guys.
Hey guys,
I'm not new to overclocking at all, but I'm looking for some advice for overclocking my CPU. I guess I'll start by listing my hardware:
3000+ Winchester, Zalman 7000 AlCu cooler, idles around 32, loads around 42
Lian li PC-7 case, 120mm up front and in the rear, well cooled case
DFI Ultra-D Lanparty mobo
2x512mb G.Skill PC3200 ram 2-3-3-7
160gb SATA Hitachi HD
X800xl, v700 CU cooler, idles around 34
OCZ 450w Modstream PSU
I've had this stuff for a while, and it has been rock solid. I got a laptop, so I've been looking at tinkering with it a little bit... went to try to overclock and had very very bad results.
At first, I set the multi to 6x to see what my max FSB was, and I upped the voltage to 1.45V, from 1.4V. I put a divider on my ram at 5/6, and upped my FSB to 210mhz. It booted up fine, but then restarted as soon as the BIOS was done. Right away I was confused, since I use to have a 2800+ that overclocked like a beast.
I went back into the BIOS, put the multi back at 9x, and put my FSB at 210mhz, and it still won't work. I can get like 208mhz out of it and that's it. I'm really shocked, since I bought all of this hardware hoping that I could overclock decently well.
I've tried different voltages, memory voltages, with cpu voltages as high as 1.55V. Shouldn't take that much. I'd be happy even if I could hit 2.0ghz, or at least something!
Now, I'm fully aware that overclocking is always YMMV, but 10mhz over? That is some rather aggressive binning by AMD if so. I'm thinking that something else is to blame here. My PSU is ROCK SOLID, with my rails not wavering at all, all within 2%. At stock voltage of 1.4V, the DFI tool says its at 1.36V, but I'm told this is normal.
I've honestly searched through a lot of stuff, different guides, how-tos, forums, and I can't find anyone that has had such poor results, esp. considering the hardware that I have.
Any ideas anyone? I've tried messing with memory timings, LDT timings, voltages, etc. Just any help at all would be appreciated before I throw this chip out the window and buy a venice, and try my luck with that.
