Overclocking Pentium D LOL

Title says all.

i have a crappy dell. with a mix of a passive heatsink and a fan attached to it and it looks weird.

*will post pic of it*

currently at 2.8 ghz. (stock)

want to try to get it to 3 ghz.

anyone wanna help me?

you will not accomplish anything even if you can oc it. even at 3.0, it would still be slower than a Core 2 duo at 1.5. in other words your cpu is just too slow in general for overclocking to make any worthwhile difference.

Can't overclock a dell, and a 200mhz speed boost would go unnoticed on almost any processor, especially one that is already horribly slow.

sheesh you guys are so unhelpful.

perhaps you could do some soft clocking of the fsb from windows.

what model is it?

he may also be able to pinmod it as well.depending on the model he may be able to upgrade to a c2d processor as well

Umm...netburst is dead man. If you are able to overclock it with the passive heatsink do you have the fire department on speeddial?

Those use this for cooling I believe. I would just use it, to avoid killing it.

You wouldnt even notice the difference between 2.8 and 3.0. If you want a cheap speed boost install flashfire or a faster hdd. What you have might not even be 7200 rpm.

Anandtech included a Pentium EE 955 in it's latest Sandy Bridge review... look at the benches, do you really think a 200MHz oc on your Pentium D will matter? 🙂

But it doesn't compare that poorly to a dual core... j/k
anyway, it'd still be interesting to see how far he can get it.

if it's the 90nm 820 though, forget about it
if it's the 65nm 920, weren't review sites hitting 4ghz with that? So a bsel mod from 800 to 1066 fsb may be stable and produce a 3.73ghz cpu, assuming the mb can supply enough voltage and the addition of a massive heatsink.

lol. i really need a new comp. freaking 2005 model i think.. xDDDD Pentium D 820 D:

Those things were known as flamethrowers in their time.

" My dad is a tech geek, made computers starting with the soldering of the MoBo (how awesome is that?)"

Get him to buy you something better, just say all your friends have core i7's and they make fun of you for not having an i7 or whatever and you need one too

wish it worked like that, BUT i have to save up my own money for it 🙁

(Christmas + Birthday money [my birthday is Christmas 🙂 ] )
will hopefully be enough for a nice i5 build

Pentium 4's are like that family member who sniffs peoples asses and licks paint off the walls.

We don't like to talk about it.

Move along.
