Hey all,

I have a pentium 4 2.4ghz 533 fsb. I bought it with an ECS board, and now I am ready to move up to a board with better overclocking. My ecs board will barely hit 150fsb (600). It is unstable at that frequency, and my processor is only at 2.7ghz. I ordered an AOpen AX4SPE-Max with the 865pe chipset. Can I expect to do better than 2.7ghz? I have Kingston Hyper X pc3000 if it helps. I am interested on how high I can overclock....any opinions?

Well im not too sure on how well the Aopen overclocks, but it is well know that ECS isn't the BEST for overclocking...

Your memory should be capapbe of 180, possibly a bit more.. On your current MOBO, do you have any divider options?

You could run a 220 FSB on the 5:4 divider and only be pushing your memory @ 176

What is your current cooling solution?

And remember in overclocking, nothing is guaranteed. However, i have a 2.4B that did 3ghz on retail HSF.

You should be able to hit 3ghz also.

Well, for cooling, I have the thermaltake spark 7 for the p4....it is a 6k rpm fan, and it should do OK. Not the best, but oh well. I wasn't really worried about the memory. To tell you the truth, I would be REALLY happy if my cpu could hit 3ghz, and I can just run the memory at the 333 setting, because you can adjust it separately (async) from the fsb. I'm crossing my fingers...thanks for the help! I know nothing is garanteed, but 3ghz is my goal! :)

Yes, adjust it when it's asnyc.

You should at least run your memory at it's full potential.

The i865PE is kinda overkill for a P4 2.4B, but it'll work. You probably won't be able to hit 800MHz FSB from 533, but 667MHz-700MHz is quite possible provided you have a goot C1 stepping chip and good cooling.
