Hey guys,

like the title suggests, i have a p4 3.0E and an Asus p4p800 deluxe mobo. I also have 1gb corsair xms ram pc3200. I tried overclocking this but wasn't sure if i was doing this correctly.

I went into bios to raise the fsb to 210. I then ran cpu-z and saw that it ran @ 3.15 ghz. I checked the ram and it was still 1:1. I then raised the fsb to 220 and when i ran cpu-z to see the ram, it ran at i believe 3:2.

Am i doing this correctly? what else can i do to get some more out of the cpu with the ram still being 1:1.

Thanks guys

Andy

Make sure that after each time you increase the FSB, you run prime 95 small FFT's to make sure its stable at the new speed. Otherwise it'll randomly crash on you, which isn't fun. ;)

If you want to try and keep the ram at 1:1 you should loosen the timings, and maybe bump up the voltage a bit, however if you want to get really good overclocks and keep the ram at 1:1 you might want to invest in some PC4000 (500Mhz)ddr, then you can go up to 250mhz FSB and keep the ram at 1:1..

I have a 3.0E with P4P800e Deluxe...

And i have GeIL DDR400 2x256MB ram,

I can simply go to 245fsb

so try to up the fsb first.

I'm currently reading the manual and I'm seeing some advanced options in the BIOS that I don't understand.

CPU External Frequency(Mhz) - this is the option I upped to 210 to get the overclock
DRAM Frequency- options are 266mhz 333 mhz 400 mhz and Auto. It says it allows you to set the DDR operating frequency
AGP/PCI Frequency- it says it allows you to adjust to higher AGP/PCI frequency for better OC'ing. options are 66.66/33.33 72.73/36.36 and 80.00/40.00
AGP VDDQ voltage- options are 1.80v 1.70v 1.60v and 1.50v
DRAM Idle Timer- options are infinite 0T 8T 16T 64T and Auto
DRAM Refresh Mode- options are Auto 15.6 uSec 7.8 uSec 64 uSec and 64T

There are also some other ones like vcore and ram voltage but I understand those.

Thanks guys

CPU External Frequency is your front side bus. Your default is 200mhz. This gives you an 800mhz FSB, and your DDR speed of 400Mhz.

DRAM frequency is just that, its the speed you run your RAM at. When you up the frontside bus however, your ram speed will increase also, so at 210mhz FSB, your ram is running at 420Mhz. If your ram started to limit your overclock, you can drop it down to 333Mhz(it will actualy be running higher than 333mhz, it will basicly be at a 3/4 ratio).

AGP/PCI frequency..you want to leave that at 66.66/33.33. That will basicly lock it, PCI and AGP bus doesn't do well when overclocked, so thats where you want to leave it.

AGP VDDQ voltage..unless you are overclocking your video card as well, it's best to leave that alone as well. If you are overclocking the video card, and it's a bit unstable, then upping the voltage a bit may help.

DRAM Idle Timer, and DRAM refresh mode..best to leave those on AUTO..

How do you mean?
The only thing it really lacks is in depth mem timings. It's got vcore, vdimm, vagp, FSB from here till tomorrow (400 or 500 if I recall), PCI/agp lock and adjustment, Ram dividers and the main timings. I seem to remember it being one of the more overclocking-feature rich boards. Maybe I just haven't used enough variety of 478 boards?

I guess you're right. Max FSB is 400 ;). Where's the RAM dividers in the BIOS by the way? I just set my ram speed to DDR400 (1:1 Divider I guess?)
