im tryin to squeeze a little life out of my p4 2.4 by overclockin ....my current set up is 1.5 gigs of ram, geforce 4 6800 gs ,audigy 2, and obviously the p4 2.4... i game alot and suprisingly my comp still seems ok when i play the shooters but for eq2 its a dog i hate having to set everything to low quality setting to play smoothly cause the vid card is pretty decent, they say the game is very processor dependant as well so im hopin to boost the processor for a noticable frames per second increase.i downloaded cpu-z an this is what it shows me...

What CPU cooler are you using? Power supply? Motherboard?

Those are going to be the most important things to help with a P4 478 overclock.

In general for your system, go into the BIOS (setup) raise the FSB in small increments until it won't post. Then increase the VCORE (voltage going to the core). Temps will start to rise so pay attention to those.

Here's a good beginner's guide:

AGP is really dead. Not as far as the cards go, but as far as motherboards go. But, were you aware that many people have gotten your particular processor (the Pentium) as high as 3.5 Ghz? Of course, that's only with the right motherboard, the right RAM, the right heatsink, and even the right power supply, and you definitely don't have the right RAM.

You're limited by your RAM.

Intel P4 2.4C @3.42GHz Intel stock HSF 1.55v
Asus P4P800 Deluxe
2x 512MB OCZ PC 3700 Gold rev. 2

really as fast as 3.5! ... so the asus p4p800 deluxe an ocz pc 3700 like lothar is the way to go? standard air cooling or some super duper stuff? i still plan on gettin the amd 64x2 an mobo but dont have the cash to get 2 gigs of super fast latest an greatest ram and a good vid card so it will be sittin in the closet till i peice everything together. so maybe i can get a slightly outdated but overclock friendly asus board an ram you speak of in the mean time to get me going.
