I have a P4 northwood 2.0ghz (400fsb) on an ASUS P4S533 with 512mb of Kingston DDR 266.
I'm trying to overclock my chip to 2.66 (533fsb). I'm told that this is pretty easy with these p4's.
Sisoft reports this about my chip:

Processor(s)
Model : Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.00GHz
Co-Processor (FPU) : Built-in
Speed : 2.02GHz
Performance Rating : PR2219 (estimated)
Type : Standard
Packaging : FC µPGA478
Rated Speed/FSB : 2000MHz / 4x 100MHz
Multiplier : 20x
Generation : 7th (7x86)
Model Information : P4N (Northwood) Pentium 4 1.6-3G 1.5V
Revision/Stepping : 2 / 4 (9)
Stepping Mask : B0
Microcode : MU0F240B

I don't know if this particular chip is good for OC'ing. Maybe someone could tell me

Now, here's my problem:
I can't get my system to be stable when I change the fsb to 133. (Won't get through more than 5min of rendering in adobe Premiere - blue screen, won't pass prime95 ect.) My mobo doesn't have ajustable pci/agp frequency.. so i can't set the fsb to anything in between 100 and 133 without messing that up right?

It won't boot with anything less than a 1.65 vcore, and even at 1.7 it's still unstable. I've also tried running the ram at 266 and 333mhz.. no effect.

Also, i think that the problem might lie with my motherboard. If you notice above, sisoft reports my cpu as running at 2.02ghz, and wincupid tells me that my fsb is actually at 102 or something... but my mobo is set to 100. Also, if anyone is familiar with asus, they have this "asus probe" software that tells you voltage, speed and fan info.. well all the values are messed up in that program.. totally out of whack.
I have heard that asus boards are notorious for wrong values and stuff.. so maybe this is normal. I don't know. Maybe there is something wrong with my board...

So... any thoughts? How can i get this OC?
Recomendations?
Thanks a bunch!

My system:

im new to oc'ing but did you try small steps at first instead of just increasing the fsb from 100 to 133? just a thought.

i dont believe that cpu was a very good ocer....

also, watch out for overvolting almost always done with asus mobo's.....(use pcprobe atleast to see actual vcore in windows)

ya thats what i was wondering about, i just started my first overclock 2 days ago, and the bios setting in my asus was lower then what mbm was reporting it to be.

there you have the asus tradition lol

my friends p4pe reports 1.65v in bios, but mbm5/pcprobe report it to be around 1.7-1.71...sometimes 1.72v....but still too much (its crossing the "voltage of death" threshold at times, so no good)

yep i noticed that when i had it set to 1.65 in bios mbm was reporting 1.71 etc. i was wondering which one to rely on. also when i start prime95 the voltage goes down under mbm.

mbm
most of the time when the system undergoes stress, the voltages will drop a bit (ive noticed that on most asus boards, under stress, the voltage will go down to about what you set the voltage in the bios...i dunno why...maybe some voltage regulator flaws?)

Yeah, the asus probe software reports about 0.05v higher than what it is actually set at.
I've gone as high as 1.7 (actual setting. the software reports it as 1.75). It still isn't stable at that voltage.
I would love to try something in between 100 and 133 but my board doesn't have an agp/pci lock.. so if i set it somewhere in between there, then the agp/pci bus will be out of whack.
I have an Aopen 400w PS. Lots of cooling too. Temps are fine. (35 idle, 45 load-BEFORE it crashes :)

So is there anything i can do to get it more stable? (Short of inreasing the voltage over 1.7.. which i'm told is NOT a good idea.)

Actually there are no p4b 2.0ghz cpus....It is a p4a!! The "a" stands for the 400mhz fsb, and the 533mhz fsb is for "b" chips...
